Kolmanskop: Ghost town in the Namib Desert

Kolmanskop was once home to hundreds of German families who tried to make their fortune during the diamond boom in the early 1900s.

The town was abandoned in less than 50 years after the mines became exhausted.

Since then, the desert is slowly taking it back.

The buildings still stand, empty, quiet, and filled with different levels of sand.

In this strange atmosphere, Kolmanskop is a peaceful place where the only sound you can hear is the wind playing in the hallways.

Each room looks different with colourful walls that have vibrant colours, especially during the golden hours of the sun.

Kolmanskop is situated around 10km inland from the port town of Lüderitz.

People can visit the place everyday from 9am until 1pm with guided tours at 9:30 and 11:00.

The photography amateurs can enjoy the place from sunrise until sunset with a special photography permit.
